Listen and Choose a Response: quick-fire listening
You hear one short sentence — a question or a statement — and choose the most natural response from four written options. It tests how well you understand meaning and intent in everyday conversation, not just words.
Format
- One spoken sentence, heard once.
- Four written reply options appear after the audio.
- Around 12 items in Module 1 and 3 in Module 2 in this practice format.
Strategy
- Identify the function: is it a question (where/when/why), a request, a complaint, an offer?
- The right reply answers the function, not just the topic.
- Beware of options that repeat a word you heard but answer a different question.
- Idioms and indirect replies are common: 'I wish I could' can mean no.
Common traps
- Sound-alike words (pick up / picked), which are designed to attract you.
- Replies with the wrong tense or wrong person.
- Answering a 'where' question with a time.
