Write for an Academic Discussion: add something new
A professor asks a question on an online class board and two students reply. You write your own post that gives an opinion, supports it, and adds something to the discussion.
Format
- About ten minutes.
- An effective response has at least 100 words.
- You see the professor's question and two student posts.
Strategy
- Open with a clear position that answers the professor's question.
- Refer to one classmate by name and agree or disagree politely.
- Add a new reason or example that neither student gave.
- Finish with a sentence that ties back to the question.
Common traps
- Repeating a classmate's idea without adding anything.
- Writing a general essay instead of a reply to this discussion.
